The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD)
is the military agency charged with guarding North America against attacks by aircraft, missiles and/or space vehicles. And, since 1955, it has been the official tracker of Santa Claus on Christmas Eve.

So-called because of their resemblance to offshore oil drilling rigs, Texas Towers were a set of three radar facilities off the eastern seaboard of the United States which were used for surveillance by the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1963.

The North American Defense Early Warning (DEW) perimeter was extended with the completion of powerful radar stations at Thule, Greenland (on October 1, 1960), and Clear, Alaska. A third station was under construction in Yorkshire, England.

was a surface-to-air missile developed by Boeing and the Michigan Aerospace Research Center and that was in operation 1959-1972.
