Water Repellent Cheesecloth

A demonstration of the water repellent qualities of cheesecloth that has been treated with an alloy of two silicon compounds developed by the U.S. Agricultural Research Service and made available in 1960. The treatment protected the cheesecloth for several months, preventing water from passing through the openings of the fabric or wetting the threads. The alloy was also tested successfully on other cotton fabrics and materials used in the manufacture of rainwear.
