Ezra Cornell
earned a fortune as the principal stockholder of the Western Union Telegraph Company, which he helped found in 1855. He used part of that fortune to found Cornell University in 1865.

Columbia Broadcasting System
began as United Independent Broadcasters in 1927. It began broadcasting radio programming that same year, and added television broadcasting to its "resume" in 1941.

WIPR-TV
became the first public television station in Puerto Rico when it was placed into operation on January 22, 1958.
