Boy Scouts in 1958 The 48th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America was celebrated by all Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, and Explorer Units during Boy Scout Week, February 7-13. The Boy Scouts of America were invited to select an outstanding Explorer Scout to go to the Antarctic with the American scientists of the International Geophysical Year. Richard Lee Chappell (below) of Eggertsville, New York, was chosen. He returned in February 1958. In the interests ofworld brotherhood the Boy Scouts of America sent a delegation to Israel in 1958. The group, comprised of 25 Scouts and Explorers of seven religious faiths from 16 states, participated in the National Jamboree of the Boy Scouts of Israel on Mount Carmel near Haifa, which was attended by about 6,000 Scouts and leaders from eight nations. Explorers from La Junta, Colorado,
