Camp
Fire Girls in 1957 Camp Fire Girls across the country
demonstrated their motto "Give Service"
in many ways in 1957. They helped with Red Cross
and United Fund drives, worked as hospital and
civilian defense aides, served as baby sitters
while mothers voted, taught crafts to children
afflicted with cerebral palsy, etc. In response
to an appeal by the Save the Children Foundation,
Camp Fire Girls collected 42,776 pounds of
clothing for Hungarian refugees.

As part of a national
"Meet the People" project Camp Fire
Girls studied the natural resources and principal
businesses of their home towns, learned about
their history and growth, and became acquainted
with community organizations and municipal
governments. The girls made snapshot portraits of
their home towns, many of which were to be shown
during Camp Fire Girls 48th Birthday Week, March
23-30, 1958, after which they were to be sent to
young people in other countries to show how
typical American towns look.
