 The African Elephant (Loxodonta africana) is the heaviest animal on land, with an adult bull weighing up to 14,000 pounds, and the second tallest, standing up to 11-1/2 feet at the shoulder. |
 The Forest Elephant (Loxodonta cyclotis) rarely stands more than 8 feet at the shoulders, compared to up to 13 feet for its savannah counterpart. It also has slimmer and straighter tusks, smoother skin, and more rounded ears than its savannah cousin. |
