 The Spotted Hyena (Crocuta crocuta) is the second largest carnivore in Africa after the lion. It is found throughout much of sub-Saharan Africa except for the tropical rainforest of western and central Africa and areas with extreme desert conditions. Although commonly portrayed as a scavenger, up to 95% of its diet actually comes from hunts. |
 Aardwolf (Proteles cristatus) This member of the hyena family differs from the true hyenas in having five instead of four toes on the front feet, relatively larger ears, and a narrower muzzle. |
