The Sika Deer (Cervus
nippon)
is a medium-sized deer, standing 25 to 48 inches at the
shoulder and weighing 132 to 310 pounds. It is
distinguished from other deer by the white spots on
males, which are most prominent in the summer. Native to
East China and Japan, it has been introduced into parts
of Europe and North America.
Whitetail Deer (Odocoileus
virginianus)
The common name of this deer refers to the
white on the underside of the tail, which is most visible
when the animal is alarmed. Whitetail are found
throughout North America, Mexico, and Central America,
and live in a wide variety of habitats ranging from open
plains to deciduous forests, swamps, and near desert.
