Pedro
Calderón de la Barca was one of the
most respected dramatists of his day. All of his works displayed innovations
in style and technique that were unique to
Calderón, and he created a group of literary
disciples in his distinct manner of Spanish
comedia. |
Charles
Perrault took a collection of
traditional children's stories and put them into
a readable format in one volume, called Stories
of Tales from Times Past, with Morals.
Subtitled Tales of Mother Goose, the
work included such well-known stories as Little
Red Riding Hood, Puss in Boots, and Cinderella. |
Giovanni
Boccaccio was one of the most
versatile writers of his age, responsible for at
least four major long poems, two novels, and
numerous works on Dante, but is best remembered
for the novel Decameron, a series of one
hundred tales told by people trying to survive an
epidemic of bubonic plague in Medieval Naples. |
