As the world watched on television, Charles was formerly invested as Prince of Wales by his mother in the open interior of Caernarvon Castle on July 1, 1969. The ceremony was designed the Prince's uncle, the Earl of Snowden, to blend ancient traditions with modern technology. The ceremony was attended by 4,000 invited guests, and was covered by dozens of television cameras.
