| Ubangi River aka Oubangui River map of the Ubangi River and Basin The Ubangi River is formed by the confluence of the Bomu and Uele rivers on the northern border of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It flows west from that point to form the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Central African Republic, and then south to form part of the border between the Republic of the Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It empties into the Congo River (of which it is the largest right-bank tributary) near Lake Tumbia. The total length of the main channel is about 700 miles (1,126 kilometers), 1,410 miles (2,270 kilometers) if you include its longest headwater. The drainage basin covers about 298,400 square miles (772,800 square kilometers). An important part of the trade network of Central Africa, the Ubangi is navigable year-round between Bangui and Brazzaville. SEE ALSO |
