Highlights At the National
Outdoor Speed Skating Championship held
at Lake Como, St. Paul, Minnesota, in January,
Jean Omelenchuk won four of the five top events
in the senior women's division and Gene Sandvig
won three of the seven events in the senior men's
division.

Union retained the Women's World Speed
Skating Title in Kristinehamm, Sweden,
on February 9.
Oleg Goncharenko of the Soviet
Union won the World Speed Skating Title
in Helsinki, Finland, on February 16.
