The Canadian Ice Hockey Team,
undefeated in seven games, won the World
Amateur Championship round-robin
tournament in Oslo, Norway, on March 9.
The
Montreal Canadiens, after winning the National
Hockey League title for the tenth time, won their
third straight Stanley Cup by
defeating the Boston Bruins 4 games to 2, April
8-20. The Canadiens had reached the final round
by sweeping the Detroit Red Wings 8-1, 5-1, 2-1,
and 4-3. The Bruins eliminated the New York
Rangers 4 games to 2 to earn their place in the
finals.

Gordie Howe, Red Wings, was
named Most Valuable Player of
the National Hockey League, making he and Eddie
Shore the only two athletes to win the Hart
Trophy four times.
Dickie Moore, Canadiens, won
the Art Ross Trophy and $1,000
as the league's leading scorer, with 36 goals and
48 assists.
Jacques Plante won the Vezina
Trophy and $1,000 as the league's least
scored-upon goalie, for the third straight year.
Camille Henry, New York
Rangers, won the Lady Byng Trophy
and $1,000 as the player judged to best combine
ability and gentlemanly conduct.
Frank Mahovlich of the Toronto
Maple Leafs was named Rookie of the Year
and received the Calder Prize.
The James Norris Trophy
went to Doug Harvey, Canadiens, as the
outstanding defense man.
