Record Coin Sale
At an auction held in Bridgeport, Missouri, on
July 26 and 27, Chicago coin dealer Waler
Perschke (left) paid $430,000 for a 1787
Brasher's doubloon owned by the Capital Coin
& Stamp Company, Incorporated. It was the
highest price ever paid for a coin at a public
auction.
The Brasher's doubloon is believed to have
been one of the first coins minted in the United
States and is one of seven such specimens known
to exist. It was privately minted by Ephraim
Brasher, a goldsmith and silversmith in New York
City, New York.
