Modern Day Duel

A question of honor was settled in Paris, France, on March 30, 1958, by a duel between 72-year-old Marquis de Cuevas (left) and 52-year-old Serge Lifar. Lifar, dancing master of the Paris Opera, claimed that de Cuevas, owner and producer of the Grand Ballet, did not have the right to produce an altered version of a ballet that he had written. Cuevas wounded Lifar slightly and then fainted, ending the duel.
