President Nixon Visits China On February 21, 1972, President Nixon became the first President to set foot in Communist China. Over the following 8 days he and his wife took in some of the sites around Peking, and the President discussed relations between the United States and China with Chinese Communist Party Chairman Mao Tse-tung and Premier Chou En-lai. President Nixon reviews an honor guard during a
ceremony at the Peking Airport. President Nixon is warmly greeted by Communist
Party Chairman Mao Tse-tung. President Nixon and Premeir Chou En-lai exchange
toasts at a 3-hour-long banquet honoring the President
