The Death of Grover Cleveland

June 24, 1908

Grover Cleveland spent the last year of his life in pain, due to a gastro-intestinal disease complicated by an ailment of the heart and kidneys, but was still determined to live the best life he could. A severe attack while on vacation in late March of 1908, however, made him realize that the end was near. With great secrecy, he was rushed by automobile to his Princeton home, where he died on June 24. A simple funeral was held at his home two days later, and he was buried at Princeton City Cemetery next to his young daughter Ruth, who had died in 1904. Frances Folsom Cleveland died in 1947 and was buried on the other side of her late husband.
