Franklin Pierce: A Chronology of His Life and Career

The personal good looks of Franklin Pierce and his brilliant speaking manner impressed all who met him. People in New Hampshire respected his service as a U.S. Representative and Senator, and as a Brigadier General in the Mexican War, but few persons outside his home state had heard of Pierce until he ran for President.

November 23, 1804		Born in Hillsborough, New Hampshire.
		Attended the academy in Hancock, New Hampshire.
		Attended the academy at Francestown, New Hampshire.
		Attended Phillips Exeter Academy
1820-1824		Attended and graduated from Bowdoin College.
1827		Established a law office in Hillsborough.
1829		Elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives.
1833		Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
November 10, 1834		Married Jane Means Appleton.
1837		Elected to the U.S. Senate.
1838		Established a law office in Concord, New Hampshire.
1842		Bought a home in Concord.
1843		Four-year-old Frank Robert Pierce died.
1847		Served as a Brigadier General in the Mexican War.
1852		Elected President of the United States.
1853		Eleven-year-old Benjamin Pierce was killed in a railroad accident.
December 2, 1863		Jane Means Pierce died.
October 8, 1869		Died in Concord, New Hampshire.
November 25, 1914		A statue of Franklin Pierce was dedicated on the grounds of the New Hampshire State House.
